The move is on....

If you recent;y visited Busy Bee Boutique, you probably noticed that the store is closed. This is due to the fact that we are moving to San Diego next Saturday!!

As easy as that sounds, we don't expect to be there until a week later, since we are traveling with three children (4 and under), my husband and myself, and I am 20 weeks pregnant! So I foresee a lot of "potty" stops along the way! :)

Hopefully Busy Bee Boutique will be up and running and ready for some "moving" specials in June!

I attended The Great Cloth Diaper Change (again)

Today was no typical Saturday. Today, my two boys and I helped set a World record for the most cloth diapers changed at one time (again). We attended The Great Cloth Diaper Change again this year! We did it last year, and had so much fun that we decided to do it again!

As you know, we have been cding since Liev (now 17 months) was a few weeks old. We we first started we had three...yes, three children in diapers!! The amount of money we spent of disposable diapers each month was $400 (that is $4800 we've saved)! That is not even mentioning the amount of trash that went curbside every week! We were working on getting our oldest potty trained, but in the meantime, she was still in diapers! That is when we looked into cloth! A friend held a cloth diapering demo at my house and I was hooked! So how to get hubby onboard? Show him the GREEN ($$)! When we figured out we could save $400 a month he was onboard!

I'm not going to lie. The first two weeks were a little tough. We had to get into a rhythm. Luckily, we did splurge on a diaper service (which cost about $120 a month) and the service washed, and picked up the diapers for us! After about 6 or more months of the service we decided to strike out on our own. We invested $200 to buy a stash of diapers, and voila! we were off and running! Now after some trial and error we have our two boys in cloth diapers almost full time. I say "almost" because our oldest son has to be in disposables for preschool, and at night since he is such a heavy wetter! But other than that he is now in cloth trainers, and the youngest is in cloth full time! And win #4 arrives, he will follow his brothers' leads and wear cloth!

The Great Cloth Diaper Change was in the next town over from us. With it was a Natural Family Festival, with vendors such as doulas, midwives, Holistic Moms Network, cloth diaper resellers, natural family retailers and kids' activities. It was a lot of fun and we came home with better knowledge on how to live "greener" lives!

DIY Tutu Dress

I got a lot of comments on the tutu dress I made and posted to Facebook! Thank you for the wonderful comments! I wanted to share a tutorial so you can make your own! Either for a friend, or yourself....I swear if I made one for myself I'd wear it everywhere!! haha

For starters, I bought rolls of tulle...Joann's had them for $2.50 for a 6" x 25 (or 15) years roll. The dress pictured took 3 rolls!
Next, you'll need elastic. I used some scrap elastic I had kicking around my craft room. The wider (to about 1/2") the better...this way it does not (hopefully) roll. You'll only need enough to go around the subject's upper torso.

Now you can either staple or sew the ends of the elastic me this is all the sewing you will be doing!!

Now measure how long you want your dress. Then you will want to double that and cut the tulle into lengths that size. Once you have a bunch cut, you can start on the dress.

First take your lengths of tulle and fold in half, lengthwise. Then you are going to take the loop side (pointing up) under the elastic circle. Then tuck the other end through the loop and tighten, forming a "knot".

Continue this until you have used all your cut tulle. If it's not as full as you'd like cut and add more. I add as much as I possible can! I even get fancy and add alternating colors of tulle or ribbon!

When you are finished you can add a tie at the waist, some sleeves (I glued these to the elastic) or even get really wild and add some jewels!! I want to try this! (The one above has ladybugs glued to it)

The tutu will get tangled as it is taken on and off, but you can untangle it by running your fingers through it and "combing" it out!

Saving Money....

Lately I've been reading money saving blogs and all the different ways to save money! I love all the ideas, but realize, like everything else, what works for one family does not work for another! But the general concept does!

My family has been living on a strict budget for some time. I have to admit, it's been hard, and some months seems impossible, but so far so good! We follow an altered Dave Ramsey type of plan, altered to fit our needs. At the beginning of each month my husband hits the ATM machine and takes out CASH...yes, cash! Remember that green stuff you can spend? We have all our expenses on a spreadsheet, and allow a certain amount for the month for each category, such as "kids", "fun money", "groceries", "gas" and so on. He pays the bills for the month, fills the car and then the debt cards  go into hiding, so we don't have them in our wallets teasing us! We each get a certain amount of CASH to spend on ourselves, an amount for the kids, groceries and date money. We place the cash in separate envelopes and spend it out of the envelopes. When the cash is gone, it's gone. The rest of his paycheck goes into emergency fund, and debt pay down. (our debt is mostly MY student loans :( ) We have NO CREDIT if there is no money there is no spending! Some months are easier, but some months we spend our fun money right away and have to turn down mom's night out or a shopping trip! So far it is working....hopefully with the addition of yet another child it will continue to work!

So, I'm sure by now you wonder there anything special we do? Well, there are a few things. I collect a few coupons, but have found that there are not many coupons that we actually use except for household things like detergent, dishwashing liquid and personal items. We shop at the Commissary, and Bj's. We use cloth diapers, and I breastfeed the kids. I make baby food and try to cut corners by doing as much myself as I can! I will admit, I do have someone come in once a month to clean my house! But that is figured into our budget...seems silly, I know, but my three kids come behind me and mess things up!

So what are a few things YOUR family does to save money?

It's been a while....but I'm back!

I have realized how long it's been since my last entry! yikes! I have a good excuse...I've been without a computer for 2 months! I know, Blogger is on my phone, but there is something about writing blog posts on your phone. My husband did it while sailing down the ICW, but I'm not him! LOL

I just want to let our readers know what I have in store for the months to come! Some tutorials, maybe a giveaway....and maybe a review! Woot! Woot!

So stay tuned....I promise good things this year, even though we are almost three months into the new year!
